Ashtanga Yoga 101 with ambassador Lara Land

ASHTANGA YOGA 101

In this workshop you will delve deep into the history, philosophy, and practice of Ashtanga Yoga. We begin by telling the story of the journey of yoga from east to west and and the way the practice has adapted and remained true. Next we look at the tristhana (three central focal points) of the Ashtanga practice: breath, gaze, and posture and how they are supported by the Mula and Uddiyana Bandhas (locks in the body). Students will have a chance to feel these in the body as experience both the Mysore and Led Ashtanga systems. Lara will breakdown the sequencing and the vinyasa flow between poses. Students learn basic Sanskrit, the Ashtanga chant, and have a look at the word Ashtanga and all of Patanjai’s eight limbs.

This HUB seventeen workshop is specially designed to inspire and prep for Uptown Yoga Festival, Harlem’s second annual yoga festival happening May 21st 9am-12pm and featuring Ashtanga Yoga, Meditation, Kickboxing and Run out on the 125th street State Office Building Plaza.
