**cultivate an everyday practice of self care thats re-aligns you with what matters most
**explore truth and reconciliation as a process and practice of transformation
**learn relational strategies towards dismantling systems of power and creating networks of connection

“Mr. President, how long must women wait for liberty?” were Inez Milholland’s powerful last words that helped carry the suffrage movement, long past her untimely death, to victory.  Inez devoted her life to equality, regardless of class, race, and gender.  She gave everything she had to the cause, despite her endless health obstacles. She was an icon of the women’s movement, inspiring a nation with her Amazonian beauty, determination, and courageous temperament.

"Beautiful and courageous, she embodied more than any other American woman, the ideals of that part of womenkind whose eyes are on the future. She embodied all the things which make the Suffrage Movement something more than a fight to vote. She meant the determination of modern women to live a full free life, unhampered by tradition."
-- The Philadelphia Public Ledger at the time of Inez Milholland’s death

About the artist:

Melissa Jessel: Melissa discovered Inez's story when she was in high school. From that moment on, Inez's endless drive and determination to win the vote for all women in the United States (coupled with her wit and flare for the dramatic) inspired Melissa to share her story. Melissa is grateful to have had the opportunity to share this piece with audiences of all ages. In New York, INEZ has been presented at The American Theatre of Actors, The United Solo Festival at Theatre Row, and at Seneca Falls as a part of the 100th Year Celebration of Suffrage in NY State. Melissa's other credits include The North Shore Music Theatre, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Bristol Valley Theatre, and The Awesome 80’s Prom Off-Broadway. Next up, Melissa is co-producing and co-directing the original children's musical Bradical and the Pink Socks. Love and thanks to my elements for the inspiration, Carolina Monnerat for giving me the chance to be here tonight, Lauren Unbekant for teaching me all that I know, and to my family for their endless support. Forward out of error, leave behind the night, forward through the darkness, forward into light!

AUTHOR’S NOTE:

I first picked up the book The Life and Times of Inez Milholland my junior year of high school.  Since then, her story has become very dear to me. After my introduction to Inez, I learned more about the Women’s Suffrage Movement than I ever had in school. My telling of Inez’s story has developed and grown over the last few years and I am insanely excited to share it with all of you at what seems to be more and more the perfect time. Inez's fight for equality is one of many that brought us to where we are today,101 years later, begging every individual to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming November elections. I hope that through a narrow look into one woman’s life, INEZ: The Suffrage Herald reminds audiences of the great history and power each vote holds. Thank you for helping to celebrate Inez Milholland’s contribution by joining us this evening!

Sweats & Balances is teaming up with modelFIT and lululemon's HUB seventeen. At modelFIT instead of large movements which rely on momentum created by joints (i.e. burpees, jump squats, etc.), the method breaks these movements down to the small portion in which your muscles are working the hardest.  At modelFIT, they move through multiple planes of motion to effectively target small, stabilizing muscle groups all over the body. Strengthening these small muscles creates a long, lean aesthetic and functional strength.

Body Tectonics

Body Tectonics

Adam Schersten- Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist and Author of the Esquire Guide to Bodyweight Training brings us Body Tectonics, an interactive educational experience that teaches the foundations of healthy posture and movement. Do you have low back or neck pain? Can you feel your posture slumping from all the computer and smartphone use? Come learn what modern day life is doing to us all and change the lens from which you view your posture, pain and injury. Identify key mobility restrictions in yourself and receive corrective strategies to improve your posture and movement ability. Whatever your practice is, make it work better for you by bringing it to a new level!

Here’s an easy leg alignment check you can do at home. Stand in front of a full length mirror. Lift one leg as high as you comfortably can with the knee bent and the foot flexed up towards the ceiling, it a tall marching stance. Look at the alignment of the thigh, knee and foot. Do they naturally line up straight with each other or does the thigh drop in and the foot swing out? Now check the other side. Does it look the same? These kinds of misalignment can cause all kinds of problems and are easy to fix once you find the problem.

Adam is a published author and has focused his education and experience on Postural Alignment, Functional Movement and Corrective Exercise. With extensive knowledge about the self-contained capacity the human body has for improvement, Adam has formulated a system for people to better manage their own posture, pain, injury and longevity. Driven by the concept that self-care is health-care, Adam's work is helping shape the future of health and wellness.

$20 suggested donation.  All proceeds go to the New York City Public School Athletic League.

A long time student and teacher of Inside Yoga, expect class to be seriously smooth and accompanied by good music. The practice will intensify the connection between your body and the music. Head into the week a feeling of fresh and with a big smile on your face. Remember, all you need is Inside!

Class is complimentary and will be taught in English. Depending on how many Germans show up, class may be taught in D-English. Curious what, “Herabschauender Hund” means? Come find out. Come prepared to move like you.

About Lisa:

At the age 22, I discovered my passion for yoga. Since completing my yoga teacher training at Inside Yoga in Frankfurt in 2015, I continue to deepen my knowledge with personal study and additional trainings. At present, I teach yoga classes in Frankfurt parallel to my university studies and have also the honor of being one of three yoga lululemon ambassadors in Frankfurt. When I experienced yoga for the very first time, I knew it would become the love of my life. At the age of 22, not yet knowing where my journey would lead, yoga gave me perspective and brought color to my horizons. It shifted my life from a traditional, conservative way of choosing my future occupation, towards a curious and vibrant journey of self-realization.

Having experienced this transformation first hand, I teach classes and personal training in Frankfurt. For me, teaching is all about sparking the unique inner light within each participant. It’s about to find each ones spark. Yoga is the balance between contraction and letting go, the mental space between inhaling and exhaling. It is a constant exploration of body, mind, and movement. As a young generation yoga teacher, I combine modern anatomical yoga alignment with youthful curiosity. My students would describe my classes as curious and intuitive on the one hand, but also powerful and challenging on the other.

Do you feel overwhelmed by work and other commitments, like your baseline stress level is higher lately than it should be? (Also, need a massage?)

It’s time to change that once and for all—it’s possible, and easier than you think.

Join Men’s Health editors, some very special guests, and a limited number of readers for a first-of-its-kind, one-day-only session that will arm you with the tools you need to dramatically decrease daily stress, improve your mood, and become more effective and creative across the board.

The third event in Men’s Health’s new MH Workshop series—a pivot to mental fitness—will focus on mindfulness.

Taking place at HUB seventeen, located underground in lululemon’s Flatiron store, this exclusive, multi-part session will take you through a guided meditation, followed by an expert panel discussion featuring some of the most influential and relatable authorities in wellness to cover the various mindfulness tactics you can adopt immediately for instant results.

Massages will be available throughout at no additional cost, courtesy of Zeel, And Pressed Juicery will be providing complimentary juices to nourish your body and mind.

Every attendee will receive a limited-edition MH Workshop T-shirt from lululemon at check-in, and go home with a collector’s MH Workshop tote bag loaded with goodies from Men’s Health and brands like Juniper Ridge, KUJU Coffee, Pressed Juicery, and lululemon.

Both men and women are welcome—no prior meditation or mindfulness experience necessary! All we ask is you come ready to learn, grow, and have a great time.
